On April 11, real estate professionals from across the Texas Hill Country gathered at Retama Park in Selma, Texas. They were there to learn more about how to support veteran and active duty military members in their quest to become homeowners. The event, a Certified Military Residential Specialist (CMRS) Boot Camp, was hosted by The Wood Group of Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation alongside American Warrior Initiative (AWI) and other Fairway offices throughout the area.
The CMRS Boot Camp is a four-hour continuing education credit class and certification event for real estate professionals. It provides a much-needed training platform where real estate professionals prepare to handle the unique mortgage needs of central Texas veterans.
Fairway Gives Back to a Hill Country Veteran
Honored on this special day was U.S. Army combat veteran, Thomas Brinch, an MP who suffered a traumatic brain injury while serving our country in Afghanistan. He and his family are new residents of the San Antonio area.
The Wood Group, AWI, and all the Fairway family in the area surprised Thomas with a service dog all his own from Operation K-9. Thomas and one of the dogs he may be paired with, Thunder, are pictured below. The connection between the two was immediate.
Thunder, and service dogs like him, are trained to sense the needs of their veterans. They offer immediate assistance in relieving the effects of PTSD through simple companionship. Fairway branches, American Warrior Initiative, and donations from Boot Camp participants fully paid for this gift to the Brinch family.
Serving Those Who Serve Us
It’s this sort of care and service that The Wood Group hopes to provide each and every day. We love helping families secure the home of their dreams. That’s especially true when it means serving the selfless men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
We sure love doing mortgages. But this is the stuff that keeps us grateful, humble, and striving for more ways to give back. (Matt Hemberger, Sales Manager for The Wood Group of Fairway in New Braunfels)
If you or someone you know has served our country and is looking for a home, it would be our great honor to introduce you the mortgage options available through the Department of Veterans Affairs. A VA home loan can provide an affordable option for veterans and surviving spouses. Additionally, they offer low and no down payment options for your new home.
Veterans eligible for Texas Vet Housing Assistance have an opportunity to purchase a home with a low-interest loan and little or no down payment. Additionally, veterans with a VA service-connected disability rating of 30% or greater may qualify for a discounted rate.
